Grade 6 Science

On behalf of Lambton Kingsway JMS and the Grade 6 students, we would like to thank Parent Council for funding our Mad Science (Scientist in the School) visit today.  The kids had a fun filled, hands on learning experience on Space! It was a successful day and workshop. Thank you!

Grade 8 Science

The grade 8’s have started studying the parts of an animal cell and a plant cell.  They completed a diagram in class and were assigned question 1 on page 21 for homework.  They also made onion cells and examined them under the microscope and were asked to complete labeled diagrams and the questions related to the lab found on pages 22-23. They have received a new project that they will be working on for the next two weeks. They have been asked to create a 3-D model of either a plant or animal cell and to recreate the organelles found in their cell.  In addition, they will need to research the structure and function of each organelle and submit it as a written report.

Grade 7 Science

The students have been studying and completing several different small class activities related to the strength and stability of a structure.  They were asked to complete questions 1-4 on page 145 in the Science textbook and submit a set of questions related to their case study on The Tower of Pisa.  They will be having a quiz this week covering the material we have studied to date.  We have reviewed the notes they need to study for the quiz and practiced related sample questions.  The students will also be receiving a new building project related to the unit coming up soon.

Grade 6 Science

The grade 6’s have been studying the Solar System.  They completed a chart in class researching the planets in our Solar System and the characteristics of them.  They have also been introduced to some new space vocabulary.  They can expect a quiz coming up covering the planet and the terms they have learned so far. The students can also expect a new project related to space coming up soon. This week they will have Mad Science (Scientists in the School) coming into the classroom to do a workshop with them related to our Space unit.  

They will also be getting back their marks for their Electricity houses and they will be asked to take their house home with them.

Grade 8 Science

The grade 8's will have written a microscope quiz this week.  They will be continuing to learn how to use the microscope and they will be creating slides this week.  They will eventually start studying plant and animal cells in depth.

Grade 7 Science

The grade 7's have finished their introductory activity on Stability.  They will be continuing to learn about different factors that affect the stability of structures and completing in class assignments.

Grade 6 Science

The grade 6's have completed their electricity houses and they look terrific!  They will be presenting them this week.  They will be starting a new unit coming up on Space.
