Grade 8 Science
This week the students were given time to complete their Individual
Report for their Cell project and their Rough Copy plan for their Model. They were asked to show me their completed
work for a process check. After the break,
they will work on constructing their model and a due date will be set.
Grade 7 Science
This week the students tested their Lunchboxes and with great success! They submitted their reports and started their new unit on Pure Substances and Mixtures. We will continue with this unit after the break.

Grade 8 Science
This
week the students were given their Cell project. They have been given the week and next week
to research and complete their individual report as well as to make a rough sketch/plan
of their model by next week Friday.
They
will be given time after the break to work on the actual construction of their
Cell model. A due date will be assigned
after the break.
They also received their Microscope test back and were asked
to get them signed.

Grade 8 Science
This week the students had time to study for their microscope test. They practiced using the microscope and viewing samples. Next week, they will be given a Cell project that they will work on till the break.

This week the students had a Scientist in the School workshop to introduce their next unit on Pure Substances and Mixtures. They had the rest of their week to work on their Lunchbox project. A due date for both their Lunchbox and Individual Report were announced in class.

Grade 8 Science
This week we started our unit on Cells. We covered the parts and functions of a microscope, how to use the microscope, specific scientists and their contributions to the cell theory and the basis of the cell theory. The students will have a test on this material late next week.
Grade 7 Science
This week the students continued to work on their Lunch box. They should be at the insulating phase and should have started to work on their individual report. The next steps should be that they are starting to decorate it based on a theme they decided as a class.
They were also asked to make a vocabulary list for their next unit on Pure Substances and Mixtures. They will have Scientists in the School next week to introduce this unit.

Grade 8 Science
This week the students finished up their Oil Spill activity and they will be moving on to start their new unit on Cells. All pressure/buoyancy tests were returned and asked to be signed. They will also have a Science workshop on Cells next week.
Grade 7 Science
This week the students continued to work on building their lunch box frame in class. The next steps will be for them to start insulating with materials they bring in. I also outlined the Individual Report and Rubric for the assignment. The Report is key in the assignment and they should start to work on it as homework. The Report will not be due until the lunchbox is complete.

Grade 8 Science
This week the students were able to see their Pressure/Buoyancy test marks. Unfortunately, not everyone has written it yet, so I won’t be able to send it home until next week. They are currently working on an Oil Spill activity which will end this unit and then we will be moving on to our new unit on Cells.

This week the students have begun construction of their Lunchbox project. They will continue to work on this project next week. I will go over the Individual report in class with the students and they should begin to start to work on the report slowly as homework. The report typically is due after their Lunchbox is complete.

With all the events
going on, the students did not have many Science classes this week. They should have completed a set of Pressure
questions and Pressure calculations. I

This week we
wrapped up our unit on Buoyancy. We discussed when objects float, sink and
rise, Archimedes’ Principle and a few other related concepts. We will be moving on to pressure and then a
test date will be announced.

This week we reviewed our discussion on Changes of States. We also covered the 3 ways Heat Transfers: Conduction, Convection, Radiation. The students were given practice questions to answer and review. They will be having a test next week on these concepts.

This week the students received their Viscosity/Density test back and were asked to get them signed. They continued to plan for their Boat challenge, which we will be testing next week. We will then be moving on to Pressure. The students can expect a short test after on these concepts.

had time to work through practice questions in preparation for their test. They also started to look at Buoyancy,

The week we took up all in class work on Density. The students conducted a lab on Viscosity and Density and had a set of questions to complete. I have moved their test till next week. The test will cover everything we have studied on Fluids to date.

This week we covered Viscosity, Flow Rate and Density (calculations). There were a number of notes and practice questions. We will conduct a lab next week and the students were told they could expect a quiz coming up late next week.

This week the students conducted their Temperature and Coffee experiment. They are writing this experiment up as a Formal Lab Report. They have been given class time to do this work and a due date will be assigned soon.

Grade 8 Science
This week the students conducted another experiment and we examined the results. They had a lab sheet to complete and follow up questions. The next properties of fluids we will look are Viscosity and Density. The students were asked to do some background reading and answer questions from the textbook.

We continued with our first unit of study on Heat. The students have been learning about different ways to measure heat. They made their own home-made thermometers and tested them. We have connected the Particle Theory to how heat affects the motion of particles.

This week the students wrote their Science Equipment test. They conducted their second experiment on Surface Tension and completed a set of questions.

We started our first unit on Heat and discussed the particles in the 3 states of matter. We also conducted an experiment on Oobleck and discussed what a Non-Newtonian Fluid is. The students were asked to review their hand out on the Particle Theory.

Grade 8 Science
We have started talking about more advanced Science equipment that the students will be using this year and in years to come. They will have a short quiz on this material next week.
We also started our new unit studying the properties of liquid and gases and completed our first experiment today. We will discuss our results next week.

We have jumped right into Science safety this week! The students have been learning about specific Science Safety Equipment and WHMIS, HHPS symbols. They will be having a short quiz next week on the material we have covered.

Welcome back everyone! I hope everyone had a great summer!
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as Ms. Chandra. I will be teaching Grade 7-8 Science at LKS and I will also be the Homeroom teacher for 8B and teaching their Math. I am looking forward to working again with the students, parents and staff.

Grade 8 Science
This week the students were given time to work on their Water Systems presentation. They should be ready to present them next week.

This week the students wrote their Ecosystems test and we finished testing our Egg Drop challenge.
They were also given an assignment were they have to create two different food webs and answer questions related to them. They will have time next week to work on this.

This week we
started their new unit on Water Systems.
We have covered some new terms and have been planning for an experiment
in class. There will be a test eventually on these concepts.

This week the students continued to work on their Egg Drop Challenge. They had to design a team crest, logo and/or slogan. They should have decided on a final device design and lastly they should have completed some research on the forces they had to take into account that will act on the egg and decide on a trial 'mock' egg they will use for their pre-testing.

Today the students had a presentation followed by a balancing centre of gravity activity by an organization called Pueblo Science. The students were engaged and had a great challenging activity!

Grade 8 Science
This week the students wrote their Mechanical Systems test. There are a few students that will still need to write it next week. Hopefully once everyone has had a chance to write it, I'll be able to get them back by the end of next week. We will begin our last unit of study on Water Systems after the long weekend.

This week the students had Scientist in the School. It was a great workshop and covered a lot of new concepts in their last unit of study on Water Systems.

to this (8A). The project will be due
next week and we will focus on the remainder of the unit and then a test date
will be set.

This week the students continued to work on building their Trebuchets. They were also assigned a set of questions related to Forces that act on a Structure from the textbook. We spent some time making sure all their notes for this unit were complete and organized.

Grade 8 Science
The students have continued to work on finalizing their
car designs and dividing up the work. All groups should be constructing their car
next week.
All students have been reminded that this project involves both a group and individual mark.
To date, the students should have completed a booklet that covered: levers, different types of energy and how to calculate work. This was background information to help them with planning and building their car. This information will also help support them to answer questions related to the assignment.

Once their designs have been completed and approved they will begin construction next week. In addition, we have discussed the different ways to classify structures and the different factors that make a structure strong and stable. They were introduced to other strengthening techniques that they will need to apply to their design.
