Grade 8 Science

The students have presented their Fluid Devices to me and they have continued to learn more about simple machines.  They have been working on identifying the 3 types of levers and calculating the mechanical advantage of a system.  They have been given several practice questions that have been taken up in class.

Grade 7 Science

The students have started studying Pure Substances and Mixtures.  They were assigned a worksheet on ‘Classifying Substances’ as well as textbook readings and questions to answer that were all taken up.  They were told to make a vocabulary study sheet with all the terms we have discussed.  They were given a quiz this week on the material covered to date. We will continue to look at concepts in this unit as well as discussing the idea of the Scientific Method and writing lab reports.

Grade 6 Science

The students have continued to work on their Electricity houses this past week and have been conferencing with me on how to build the different circuits.  Their project will be due next week and specific dates will be given out to each class.  They will also be told when the individual written part is due as well (this is something they should be working on as homework).

Grade 8 Science

The students submitted their Science Fluid projects this week.  We went over 2 types of Technical Drawings in class and the students were asked to submit 2 for marking today.

Grade 7 Science

The students Lunchbox Projects were due this week and their written component. The Lunchboxes were tested and we had great results!  The students have begun looking at our next unit in Science, called Pure Substances and Mixtures.  They were assigned a worksheet on ‘Classifying Substances' to complete for homework that will be taken up in class next week and they can expect a short quiz coming up on this new material soon.

Grade 6 Science

The students have been working on their Electricity project this past week.  They will continue to build their house next week.  They have been told next week, I will be coming around and conferencing with each group on the types of circuits they will be including in their box as well as ask for demonstrations on connecting the circuits.

Grade 8 Science

The grade 8 Fluid project is due next week.  This includes their model device and their written report.  I went over my expectations of the report and each question that they have been asked to answer.  Just a reminder that their reports are individual, should be typed and well organized. I will be going over the technical drawings next week with the students.

Grade 7 Science

The students 'Lunchbox Project' is due next week.  Both classes have been given their due date.  This includes their box and their individual written report.  I am reviewing the questions with the students for the written component and outlining my expectations with them.  It is expected that their report will be typed and well organized and all the questions completed thoroughly with an emphasis on particle behaviour and the 3 methods of heat transfer.

Grade 6 Science

The students have been assigned an ‘Electricity Design Project' and were given their groups.  They were given the assignment outline and expectations.  Please have a chance to review it with them.  They are required to build a small house and wire it with specific circuits and decorations.  They have been asked to bring in a 9 Volt battery for the project and a cardboard box.  Their in class work on Series and Parallel circuits were reviewed by me and should be in their notebooks for reference.
