Grade 8 Science

The students received their Mechanical Efficiency test back and were asked to get it signed and return it back to me.  This past week, the students were shown the steps on how to use a microscope and were given the opportunity to start using them and view samples of their choice.  They will have Monday's class to continue to practice using them.

On Tuesday, they will have a test on what we have covered so far in the new unit on Cells.  They will need to know the Scientists and their contributions, the Cell Theory, the microscope parts and functions as well as how to use it.

Grade 7 Science

The students finished their presentations on different types of solutions.  One class began their experiment with solubility today and the other class will start next week.

Grade 6 Science

The students continued to present their Space project visuals.  We should be done almost all presentations and we will begin a new unit on Flight next week.  We will start off with some small activities in class to illustrate some of the concepts around the new unit.

Grade 8 Science

The students will get their Mechanical Efficiency test back next week.  I've reminded them to make sure they are completing their assigned homework questions and are staying on top of their work.  I've also reminded them, I'm available at lunch and after school if they need extra help or clarification of their work etc.

The students have started to learn some of the significant scientist contributions to Cells and the parts and functions of a microscope.  Next week, they will learn how to use the microscope and they were asked to think of a small sample they would like to bring in to view.

Grade 7 Science

The students are learning about different types of solutions and solubility.  They were put in groups and given a specific word on the types of solutions that they will teach the class.  They are responsible for having the definition and providing 2 examples and performing a visual for the term.  They will be conducting a follow up experiment to help illustrate all the concepts on the different types of solutions and solubility.

Grade 6 Science

The students have been presenting their Space project visual to the class.  They are presenting what they made and what their topic was.  Next week, we should be starting a new unit on Flight.

Grade 8 Science

The students wrote their Mechanical Efficiency test on Monday.  We began our new unit on Cells.  They had a hand out and questions on the back to complete for homework.

Grade 6 Science

The students were given some time this week to complete their rough copy for their final written space project.  They handed in their complete project today which included their visual and typed final written report.

Grade 7 Science

On behalf of LKS, we would like to thank our Parent Council for allowing the Grade 7s to have Scientist in the School this week.  They had a fun-filled, hands on workshop about Structures and Mechanisms which will be their next unit of study.

Next week, the students will finish up with learning about different types of solutions and they will carry out an investigation on them.

Grade 8 Science

The students displayed their hydraulic projects on Wednesday and the Grade 5-7 classes voted on their top three choices.

We took up more practice questions from their work booklet.  The students will have a test on Monday.

They had an opportunity to check their review questions and answers.  They do not need a textbook to study for this test.  They should be done with all the review questions and should rely on their completed homework and notes in their booklet.

Grade 7 Science

The students conducted an experiment investigating the factors that affect the rate of dissolving.  We discussed their results and took up questions.  They received a hand out that summarized all the concepts we have covered.  Next week, they will be conducting another experiment investigating unsaturated, saturated and supersaturated solutions.

Grade 6 Science

The students were given all week to work on a rough copy for their final written report on their space topic.  Next week, a good typed copy will be due as well as their space visual.
