Grade 8 Science

The students have been working on a project where they have been asked to create either a plant or animal cell model.  They have a copy of the assignment outline and criteria.  They will be working on this for the next little while in class among other small activities on plant and animal cells.

Grade 7 Science

This week we tested the structures the students made.  We will be reviewing several factors and criteria that help make buildings stable and strong.

Grade 6 Science

The students have continued to learn about our Solar System and different space related concepts.  They wrote a quiz on the material covered to date.  Next week, we will be looking at more space concepts and the students will be assigned a project.

Grade 8 Science

This week the students wrote their Microscope quiz.  They have been using the microscopes in class and were shown how to prepare slides.  They were asked to bring in a sample of their choice to make a slide and view it under the microscope.  They have been assigned some readings and questions on plant and animal cell parts.  They will be getting a project next week regarding this and they can expect a quiz following the completion of the project.

Grade 7 Science

This week the students submitted their Paper Chromatography labs.  They have started a new unit this week on Structures and Mechanisms and were given a quick building challenge exercise to investigate their knowledge on what factors help make a structure strong and stable.  We will be testing their creations next week and  we will discuss the common factors that help make structures strong.

Grade 6 Science

The students have completed their Electricity unit.  They have started getting back their marks for their projects.  This week, we begun look at a new unit on Space.  They have taken notes in class and they were given a booklet to keep that they will continue to work from.  From time to time, they will submit work from this booklet.  They have already been assigned a set of readings and questions from the booklet that they submitted this week.

Grade 8 Science

The students continued to learn about microscopes and how to use them.  They will have a quiz on the material covered to date after the March Break. They were given their Mechanical Advantage Tests back to take home.

Grade 7 Science

The The students handed in their Rate of Dissolving Labs.  They also started/completed another lab on Paper Chromatography.

Grade 6 Science

The students completed a series of activities on Static Electricity in class and were asked to complete a summary on what they learned and hand these sheets in.  They watched a video on Static Electricity and took notes as well.

Grade 8 Science

Both classes have received their mark on their Mechanical Advantage test they wrote.  They have started learning about The Cell Theory, the names of various Scientists and their contributions to cells.  They had a worksheet to complete on this. They also started learning the parts and function of a microscope and how to use it.  They had to complete a sheet on this as well.  They will be having a test coming up on this material soon.

Grade 7 Science

The students finished their observations for their Rate of Dissolving lab this week.  They were asked to type up their lab report up to their observations.  This week, they were asked to complete their conclusion and discussion questions 9 a, b, e found on page 31 in the science textbook.  They will be handing in their final completed lab reports next week.

Grade 6 Science

Most classes have finished their Electricity house presentations.  They were asked to complete two worksheets on different terms related to electricity.  Next week, we will be looking at Static Electricity and completing some experiments in class.
