Grade 8 Science

All the students should have received their Mechanical Systems test.  They were given the rest of the time to work on construction of their Car Racers.  The students were also reminded that there is a written component in addition to their project.  Due dates will be given out soon.

Grade 7 Science

The students performed some Centre of Gravity activities this week and were also given their group for their Structures Project.  We discussed other methods of strengthening a structure such as: struts, ties, lamination etc.

The students will be having a test next week on all the concepts covered to date: classifying structures, forces and loads, centre of gravity, and other methods to strengthen a structure.

Grade 6 Science

The students wrote their space quiz on the solar system and the characteristics of planets this week. Next week, they will be learning about moon phases and solar and lunar eclipses as well as starting a Space Project.

Grade 8 Science

This week the students saw their mark for their Mechanical Systems test.  They were given the remainder of the week to start construction on their car racers.  They will continue to work on this next week.

 

Grade 7 Science

The students are working towards understanding some key concepts to help with planning their final structures project. 

We have covered classifying structures and the forces and loads that can act on them.  Next, we will cover the centre of gravity in structures as well as other factors that help stabilize and strengthen them.  Eventually, they will have a test on these concepts.

Grade 6 Science

The students were working towards finishing up their worksheets on the 'characteristics of planets'.  They will receive an answer booklet once they submit their worksheets. 

They will be having a quiz on all the concepts that we have covered to date: order of the planets, inner, outer planets, specific planet characteristics and space vocabulary.

Grade 8 Science

The students wrote their Mechanical Systems test today.  They will continue to work on their Car building assignment next week.

Grade 7 Science

The students received their marks for their Paper Chromatography lab.  We finished our unit on Solutions and started talking about our next unit on Structures.

Grade 6 Science

The students have continued to learn about the planets in our solar system and their specific characteristics.  They will be completing an in class assignment on this.

Grade 8 Science

Students should have covered: Weight, Forms of Energy, Work and Mechanical Advantage in their workbooks.  They have been assigned additional practice/review questions for a test coming up next week. They have also begun their Car building assignment.

Grade 7 Science

We are finishing up our unit with solutions and understanding how solutions form as well as understanding how specific factors can increase the rate of dissolving.  We will begin a new unit on Structures soon.

Grade 6 Science

Students submitted their Flight booklets and we have begun our new unit on Space.  They are learning about the order of planets from the sun, some space vocabulary and special characteristics about some of the planets.
