Grade 7 Science
The grades 7’s have received their next building project. Their assignment is entitled; ‘A King’s Ransom’ and the students are challenged to design and build a Trebuchet capable of launching a marshmallow a specific distance. The students have been researching their designs in class and they are expected to have a sketch to scale this week. They will begin hopefully building next week. In addition to building, theory will also be covered in their next classes.
Grade 6 Science
We had a successful workshop with Scientist in the School last Monday. Students were introduced to their next unit of study, Electricity! Students should have a booklet on the electricity concepts covered in the workshop in their notebooks and they will be given additional notes from me this week on electricity.

Grade 8 Science
Students have made their rough sketches and design for their mini car racers. We should be receiving all our materials next week and they will begin building. In addition, they have or will be responsible to cover the following material in their textbook: Friction and Mechanical Advantage: pgs. 167, # 1-3 and Force, Area, and Pressure: pgs. 175, # 1-6.
Students have also received back their Gummy Bear Lab Reports. Please view their mark and either sign their planner or the actual lab report.
Grade 7 Science
All grade 7 students have been working on a Structures and Mechanism research assignment. They were to read about the forces that act on structures in their textbook on pgs. 160-161 and the different types of classification of structures on pgs. 162-163. They were then given the research assignment as a follow up with a rubric. The students were given class time all week to work on the assignment and they worked very well. Their report was due today and almost all students completed it. Good work grade 7’s! They will be receiving another building project coming up very soon.
Grade 6 Science
All model paper airplanes were due this past week. Their model airplane reports were to be completed after their airplane testing and should be handed in and/or due early next week. We have Scientist in the School coming in on Monday February 14th to introduce and work with the kids on another topic.
