Grade 8 Science

Welcome back everyone and Happy New Year!

The classes that have written their Mechanical Advantage and Efficiency Test before the break have received their marks.  The other class will be continuing to review and write their test soon.  Both classes are working towards finishing up their Hydraulic and Pneumatic projects in the next week or two.

Grade 7 Science

Welcome back everyone and Happy New Year!

The classes that have written their test before the break will be receiving their marks back this week.  They will also be receiving their Lunch box Project marks as well.  We are continuing to study Pure Substances and Mixtures.  The students will be conducting and writing a lab investigation related to Paper Chromatography this week.

Grade 6 Science

Welcome back everyone and Happy New Year!

The classes that have written their Electricity test before the break will be receiving their mark back this week.  They will also be receiving their Biodiversity Project marks.  We are continuing to study Electricity.  Specifically, we will be looking at Static Electricity and different types of Electrical Circuits.

Grade 8 Science

The students are continuing to build their hydraulic/pneumatic devices.  They were asked to complete the following questions related to Simple Machines and Mechanical Advantage for homework:  read pages 148-149 and answer question 2 on page 149 and read pages 150-153 and answer questions 1-5 on page 153. The students will be getting a booklet on the information covered in class and in the assigned homework that will allow them to practice more related questions and problems.  The students will eventually have a quiz on this material. 

Grade 7 Science

The students will have or will be testing their lunchboxes this week.  They have begun studying how to classify matter into pure substances and/or mixtures.  To date the students should have the following material in their notebooks to prepare for an upcoming quiz (date to be announced in class):

  • A list of Vocabulary
  • An outline on writing a Lab Report
  • A summary prepared by them on Pure Substances vs. Mixtures
  • A chart classifying Matter
  • A completed lab in class called ‘Classifying Substances’
  • A handout describing Pure Substance and Mixtures
  • A handout and set of questions on Separating Mixtures
  • Questions 1-5 on page 21

Grade 6 Science

Almost all students have presented their Biodiversity projects.  The students have now begun studying various concepts in the Electricity unit.  To date the students should have the following in their notebooks to prepare for an upcoming quiz (date to be announced in class):

  • A 2 page handout on Electricity (What is Electricity and what are electrons and atoms etc.)
  • A 2 page ‘matching and multiple choice handout’ on definitions
  • A crossword on the words/definitions
  • A handout on Current electricity
